They have been processed to kill all spoilage bacteria and pathogenic organisms such as Clostridium botulinum, Salmonella, and Trichinella spiralis. These hams are generally not over 3 pounds in size. Some canned hams are shelf stable and can be stored in the pantry up to 2 to 5 years at room temperature. Don't purchase bulging, rusted, leaking, or deeply dented cans.Īfter opening canned foods, is it safe to refrigerate the unused food in the can? Check your pantry every few weeks and use canned goods you have had on hand for awhile. Never put them above or beside the stove, under the sink, in a damp garage or basement, or any place exposed to high or low temperature extremes. Store canned foods and other shelf stable products in a cool, dry place. In fact, canned goods designed for use in the tropics are specially manufactured. The risk of spoilage jumps sharply as storage temperatures rise. High temperatures (over 100 ☏) are harmful to canned goods too. Over several years, this can cause taste and texture changes, and eventually lower the nutritional value of the food. In all foods, but especially in high-acid foods like canned tomatoes, natural chemicals in the food continually react with the container. Shipping accidents, where cans fall and dent or are crushed, also cause container problems. There are several factors that limit the shelf life of canned foods. Keep an eye out for your unemployment tax refund and do your best to use that money in a way that gives you the most benefit – especially if your personal finances have not yet recovered from the impact of the pandemic. So the fact that you may be getting a break on $10,200 of benefits is an opportunity you should embrace. Normally, unemployment benefits are fully taxable at the federal level. Your tax refund may be enough to help you put money down to get a car, thereby opening up your options. Finally, you may be struggling to find work you can access via public transportation. Or, it could be that the type of job you want requires a college degree, in which case you could use your refund to help cover tuition. If you're lacking certain skills that make it tough to find work, you can use your refund to take a course to teach you what you need to know. If you're one of them, you may be able to use your tax refund to help yourself secure a new job. Though the jobless rate has fallen a lot since peaking a little over a year ago, many Americans are still out of work. Increase your chances of getting a new job The same holds true if you have a personal loan that's hanging over your head. Their reasons vary.īut if you're carrying high-interest credit card debt that's costing you a lot of money, then it pays to use your tax refund to pay some of that debt down. Unemployment assistance: These 9 states will end participation in unemployment assistance programs. Tax Day is Monday: How do I file a tax extension for 2021? There's generally no need to rush to prepay a mortgage because interest rates are usually low. And of course many people entered the pandemic with debt hanging over their heads. Pay off some costly debtĪ lot of people had no choice but to rack up debt during the pandemic. If you can boost your cash reserves so you have more – about six months' worth – even better. Generally speaking, it's a good idea to have at least three months of essential living expenses in your savings account. So if your emergency fund needs work, put your tax refund directly into savings. If the pandemic has taught us anything, it's the importance of having money in the bank for unplanned expenses or circumstances. If you're getting a refund for the taxes you paid on unemployment income last year, here are some things you can do to maximize the impact of this IRS refund. Stimulus checks: IRS sends nearly 1M more COVID relief payments, including 'plus-up' payments And while the IRS hasn't said how many taxpayers in total it expects to issue refunds for due to this change, that number could climb substantially by the time this year's tax season wraps up. So far, a good 7.3 million tax returns processed by the IRS are due a refund based on the tax-free unemployment rule. This means that a lot of people who received jobless benefits last year are in line for a refund on their 2020 taxes, which are due May 17. The relief package also boosted unemployment for those still collecting jobless benefits while also making $10,200 in unemployment benefits tax free for 2020. The $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan is perhaps best known for putting $1,400 stimulus checks in Americans' bank accounts. Lonely white-way lights stand guard over miles of cement sidewalks, where grass and palmetto take the place of homes that were to be. Villard described his approach to Miami by road: “Dead subdivisions line the highway, their pompous names half-obliterated on crumbling stucco gates. At this point, the bloom was definitely off the Florida real-estate rose.īy 1927 Florida presented a desolate scene. Then, in September, a hurricane focused its fury on the Miami area, killing about 400 people, injuring more than 6,000, and leaving 50,000 people homeless. In 1926 the frenzy of the preceding two or three years began to cool noticeably. Millions of dollars were being made almost overnight. Petersburg, and other cities and towns” on the state’s west coast. The fever had spread to Tampa, Sarasota, St. The whole strip of coast line from Palm Beach southward was being developed into an American Riviera. “Everybody was making money on land, prices were climbing to incredible heights, and those who came to scoff remained to speculate. People’s wildest dreams were coming true. he public utilities of the city were trying desperately to meet the suddenly multiplied demand for electricity and gas and telephone service.” The warm air vibrated with the clatter of riveters, for the steel skeletons of skyscrapers were rising to give Miami a sky-line appropriate to its metropolitan destiny. There were said to be 2,000 real-estate offices and 25,000 agents marketing house-lots or acreage. In the summer and autumn of 1925, wrote Allen, Miami “had become one frenzied real-estate exchange. None of this activity could match the mania that propelled the development of properties in Florida. Skyscrapers sprang up in the downtown areas of many of the largest cities, and huge suburban developments appeared, catering to the rising middle class, whose members now possessed automobiles for commuting to work in the cities. Real-estate booms occurred in many parts of the country, affecting both residential and commercial construction. During the second half of the 1920s, construction remained on a high plateau, though falling slightly after a peak in 1926, and gross private construction spending amounted to 62 percent of gross private domestic investment, on average. Even during the brief depression of 1920–21, construction did not decline greatly, and as the economy recovered, building activity grew smartly, approximately doubling between 19. When World War I ended, private construction activity, which had been substantially displaced in 19, resumed at a healthy pace. History may not repeat itself exactly, but episodes composed of speculative mania, construction boom, financial misfeasance and malfeasance, and expansive monetary policy do recur from time to time. The real-estate boom and bust we are now experiencing had a spectacular predecessor during the 1920s and 1930s. Imagine a story about collapse of the real-estate markets that states: “Most of the millions piled up in paper profits had melted away, many of the millions sunk in developments had been sunk for good and all, the vast inverted pyramid of credit had toppled to earth, and the lesson of the economic falsity of a scheme of land values based upon grandiose plans, preposterous expectations, and hot air had been taught in a long agony of deflation.”Ī story written in 2008? No, an extract from Frederick Lewis Allen’s 1931 book Only Yesterday. Very Capable Engine: Although the graphics output is not as good as Unreal Engine, still it is good enough for most cases. Unity compiles your C#/JS/Boo code to run on iOS, Android, PC, Mac, XBox, PS3, Wii, or web plugin. The version of JavaScript used by Unity is also a CLI language. Boo's syntax is very similar to Python (Although it is NOT Python). Other than that, it also has one of the largest community of developers working with their development kit creating the state of the art mobile apps and games.Įasier to Learn: For development you have can choose between C#, Boo, or a dialect of JavaScript. Unity excels in excels creating 2D and 3D games and has proven to be very powerful as well. These are few of many hit games made with Unity. Both went viral and had everyone glued to his or her phones completing as many levels as possible or beating each other’s high scores. If you have had an Android/iOS phone on you for the past few years or so, then you have obviously played games such as Temple Run and Angry Birds. If your primary aim is to develop casual games for mobile devices (Thus extra graphics horsepower not needed), you may also look into Unity. Also, the prices are also much higher.Ĭonclusion: Unreal Engine was created to make Small World First Person Shooting Games for PC and Consoles. Higher PC Configuration: As of February 2016, Unreal recommend minimum PC requirement of 8GB ram, Quadcore Processor, and a Medium to high-end Graphics Card.Īsset Store: UE4 marketplace has fewer items compared to other stores. If your game does not need the 3D superior performance that Unreal offers, you should try some other engines. We had to rebuild the game in Unity (took 26MB). Once I made a casual Snake Ladder game with Unreal, and it took around 60MB of space. Heavy for Casual Games: Games developed with Unreal takes up a lot more space compared to other similar engines. Since Unrealscript is unique to UDK, you are writing in a dead language that will never be useful anywhere else. Unreal uses it is own visual scripting language instead of standard C#. Higher Learning Curve: Unreal is hard to learn, and it can be frustrating for beginners. Unreal is the first mainstream engine that has brought native VR support. Virtual Reality: We know VR is the next frontier. Handles Complex Graphics very well: If you are making a complex 3D game, this can be the ideal engine for you. Moreover, when you publish your game or animation, you pay a 5% royalty on gross revenue after the first $3,000 per product, per quarter. You have access to the full featured engine for free. Indie Friendly Pricing: Unreal has the best pricing model for all the engines I am going to mention. It also has thousands of hours of video tutorials. Very Good Support System: With so many developers using it, Unreal has a great community. Nova 3, Death Rally, Real Boxing and The Dark Knight Rises are perfect examples. If you are yet to play a game developed by the Unreal engine on your phone, it is highly recommended because their attention to detail is remarkable. However, it is not just for the PC, in fact, it is one of the few multi-platform game engines on the market. Unreal engine excels in quality and detailed graphics and has proven that it is one of the best software development toolkits out there. Most people would recognize unreal engine by PC games, such as the Bioshock series. Unreal is probably one of the most well-known game engines on the market. Platforms: Android, iOS, Windows Mobile, Linux, Mac, PC, XBOX and Playstation Moreover, to make things worse, I am listing down 3 Game Engines you must try before choosing one.

Claire and Frank are reluctant to bury her, given that she's their link to all of the NSA data. "She pressured us to cancel the airstrike," he says. With the Brockhart news breaking, Doug suggests that LeAnn's head roll as a result. The pizza man doesn't recognize Zoe, but he does recognize Meechum, whose presence in the neighborhood years ago is enough to keep Tom digging. He goes to Zoe's old neighborhood, and shows her picture to a bag lady and a guy in a pizza shop. He calls Zoe's father, who tells him that he wishes he had known his daughter better and been in touch with her before she died. He won't stop chasing this years-old story about Zoe. God bless Tom Hammerschmidt's little heart. So let's put on the best show in town," he says. "Politics is no longer just theater, it's show business. We'll just make it look like the party chose her," he tells the leaders. He floats Cathy Durant's name to them as his choice, but, wink wink, says that he wants the people to decide. The next step is for Frank to convince the party's leadership to have an open convention. She follows through, and Austen pulls out. ".a lot can change in a day, Dean," Frank tells him.Ĭlaire meets with the NRA president and tells her that she'll make sure that her bill will pass through the House but die in the Senate if she convinces Austen to remove himself from consideration. Then, they reverse course with Austen and order him to appear by Frank's side at a press conference, speaking in support of the legislation. Then, using their broad new surveillance data, they target voters with a teary-eyed robocall from Claire, urging the public to hound congress into supporting Claire's bill. Then, they make sure that Kate Baldwin sees him in the White House, which leaks, drawing the NRA's ire. First, they tell him he won't need to support Claire's gun control bill to get on the ticket. "You want Austen, you will make this bill a reality," Claire tells leadership.Īusten isn't Claire, though, so the Underwoods set out to politically neuter him. They first offer the spot to Senator Austen, a pro-NRA candidate, that would placate congressional leadership's demand for their choice of candidate in exchange for supporting Claire's legislation. The Underwood's plate continues to be full as they ramp up their effort to get Claire on the ticket. They agree that Yates understood them and saw them in a way that only Meechum has, any time recently. "You felt something for him," she continues. They talk it over while having a cigarette by the window, just like old times. After Frank and Claire read an excerpt that Yates provided, they have to decide whether or not to bring him in. Yates takes that information to Doug and asks for a meeting with the Underwoods, using the threat of publishing his novel before the Underwoods get to see it. She also manages to work in that they'll be on the cover of the magazine this month. The joke writes itself, doesn't it? Hannah mentions that her good friend is the editor of Vanity Fair, and could do a lot to boost Yates's career if he were to help them. Eager to dig up some dirt on their rivals, Will and Hannah meet with Tom Yates, the biographer that chronicled Frank and Claire's marriage for his new novel. We’ve left out shows that originated elsewhere before the platform picked them up (sorry, Black Mirror ) and we’re also sticking to scripted series (sorry not sorry, Tiger King ).The Conways and their rising threat to Frank and Claire is our top story. So we’ve put together a list of the 40 Netflix originals series you absolutely must make time for. But just when it seems like Netflix has been fully eclipsed by the revolution it kickstarted, something like Squid Game comes along and blows up, placing the streamer right back at the centre of the entertainment conversation.Įven during its dry spells of buzz-worthy content, the company has churned out so much classic original programming that most of us won’t get to half of it in our lifetimes. Obviously, the landscape is much more crowded now. When it comes to original programming, the streamer was once pretty much the only player in town, having broken down the door to streaming becoming the dominant form of prestige TV with House of Cards way back in 2013. Netflix changed the streaming game – and then the game changed on Netflix. All of which is to say, we think Candela is an excellent new addition to the Auckland dining scene, and we can’t wait to see where it goes next. After about 9.30pm, the menu switches over into Candela’s late-night eats, where you’ll find mushroom and pork cubanos, paired with some very good cocktails.Īlthough frequently humming with people loitering outside for a drink with friends, and loud music nights where a local DJ or band will take the floor, service here is warm, fast and friendly, overseen by manager Leola Angel King. Order today to experience fresh flavors and authentic. We’d recommend that anyone who comes here starts with the smoked kina butter and sourdough - the smoked kina butter has that unmistakable seafood-forward saltiness - and ends with the creamy basque cheesecake, which is definitely made to share. On the border of Irving Park and Albany Park, D’Candela serves up spicy, garlicky Peruvian pollo a la brasa, or rotisserie chicken, available by the quarter, half, or whole. DCandela Restaurant provides delicious Latin American cuisine to its loyal and hungry customers. You’ll find lamb-shoulder empanadas, white bean gazpacho, ajo blanco, chimichurri and tostadas somewhere on the menu, along with a bowl of patatas bravas, of course. Refreshingly, it feels completely unlike all the other spots on the same road, or even in the same city, and so, too, does the food, most of it Spanish-inspired. Candela welcomes diners into an inviting room with a sense of intrigue, with textured walls, patterned tiles and curved lamps casting low mood lighting over the tables. But I like to have a schedule as well so we will see what happens from here.Abstract : Background. Part of me thinks, why bother, just let it come if you are only going to do it a week early. So they did that a couple of times to make sure she was still moving OK.Īs for the baby being so big, they scheduled me to be induced at 39 weeks on September 25th. It was like this wand that they put on your stomach and it makes this really loud buzzing sound and it freaks the baby out. They had a really hard time getting the baby to move so they gave me apple juice and brought this buzzer thing in to scare the baby. They had me do another non-stress test and while there I did have a contraction but they said that was OK. I still have to go back every week to check it but at least I know for this week, it looks good. Looks like the rest and LOTS of water helped because my fluid level is back up in the normal range and looks great. Hope the rest of your pregnancy continues smoothly. Oligohydramnios- the technical term of documented low amniotic fluid Terms you may hearĪFI amniotic fluid index we like it to be above 5cm depenidng on the kind of measurements they are doing. Also your baby could have had a full bladder and a few minutes later you could have had a slightly higher lever. They measure pockets of fluid to determine the amount and they just might have not gotten good views. You do not have a serious problem at this time at all, just something worth keeping an eye on. You have had a big baby before and ultrasounds can be wrong about size, it is an estimate. There are some other fetal anomilies that can cause this but since you have had other ultrasounds with no developmental problems I would not worry about that at this point. Other things that can cause low fluid are dehydration, diabetes, and a placenta that is not working well. One of the things they will want to watch is the babies kidneys, if the kidneys are not functioning properly then the fluid gets swallowed and not cleared. If it continues to get lower and lower they will need to try and figure out why, and may consider early delivery. Low of normal is probably not an indicator that something is wrong, but it should be watched. Did you have an early ultrasound like before 12 weeks and did you measure 2 weeks ahead then?Īlso I am sure everyone wants to know this but here goes, amniotic fluid continues to be made because the baby swallows it with their practice breathing and urinate it out. Also you said you have had 4 ultrasounds and have always measured 2 weeks ahead. I am glad they are going to do some follow up ultrasounds. I don't want to wait over the weekend and my next appointment is not until the 17th. My original Dr left the clinic last week (she moved) and she was all over everything so that is what I am used to. and if this is how she handles things (by not getting back to people) I am going to be really irritated. So now I am waiting for that information to get to me and don't have a lot of faith for some reason. So the nurse had to send her a message asking her that I had called and was looking for some clue as to what she wanted to do. Well, at 1:00 today I called because I had not heard anything and her nurse said that she had signed off on the ultrasound but did not leave any instrustions as to what to do. to take a look at and she was supposed to give me a game plan today. The ultrasound tech found the low fluid and sent all the information to my Dr. is not exactly "on it" as it was me who went in yesterday because I was having pains and the nurse was the one that did my appointment. I know the ultrasound tech asked me if I was diabetic due to the size of the baby. I failed the 1 hour one but passed the 3 hour one with flying colors.so they say. If a splitter is to be used in a noisy environment or is to be connected to many different systems (such as a mobile recording setup) the possibility of encountering problems can be lessened by using a microphone splitting transformer as described below. However, if a system works well with a parallel split, this type is popular because they are simpler to construct and do not require employing isolation transformers - an added expense. Also, differences in the impedances of the legs in active balanced inputs of multiple consoles can make the system more susceptible to hums and buzzes caused by outside interference. Most modern consoles behave well when connected to each other but keep in mind that there is no DC isolation between them. This method successfully connects the mic to multiple mixing consoles but connects the consoles directly to each other as well. This involves taking a mic cable and simply "Y" connecting the plus, minus and ground wires to two other cables. The simplest form of splitter is the parallel type split. There are two types of passive splitters: parallel and transformer isolated. This is called passive splitting - no power required.Īctive electronic splitters will most likely be required when splitting microphones to four or more consoles. The number of splits that can be accomplished depends on the application, impedances present in the system, length of the cables and the quality of the components used in the splitter. Microphones can usually be split to up to three, and in some cases even four, destinations without the use of electronics. (See tech article "High and Low Impedance" for a more detailed explanation.) This actually increases the overall load presented to the mic signal and limits how many times it can be split without degrading tone or introducing distortion. When a signal is split to be sent to more than one mixing console, the input impedances of those consoles provide additional paths for the electrical current. Proper design of signal flow in an audio system dictates that low impedance outputs (mics) feed high impedance inputs (mixers). In any event, you'll most likely need to split your mic signals and feed more than one mixing console. That mix will be at its best if the person providing it is isolated from the confusion of hearing the live sound. Or you may be called upon to provide a separate mix for recording or broadcasting your performances. Although it's possible to provide a separate monitor mix from the main console, a person located nearer to the performance area can hear what the performers hear, see their cues more easily and just generally be able to provide a better monitor mix. In this article we just might add some additional terms to your audio vocabulary as we discuss microphone splitters.Īs your sound system expands, it will eventually be necessary to provide additional mixes from locations other than the main mix position. have become part of the sound team's vocabulary as they strive to provide today's expected level of sound quality and production - for both the listeners and the performers. Words like "direct box", "balanced", "low impedance", "crossover", etc. Many have replaced that powered mixer with separate components and added a snake to allow for a mix position in the listening area. If your band, school or church's sound system has evolved along a familiar path, what started out as a pretty simple, small group, "sound-on-a-stick" has gradually become more and more sophisticated.
